The Striking Post – September 2016

T h e  S t r i k i n g   P o s t

Well the summer months have passed and a new karate season is upon us. Last year was quite eventful with the ICKF-NS Bogu series, the 14th edition of the Yarmouth Cup and the very successful 5 day ICKF Summer Camp hosted here in Yarmouth. We were also fortunate to be featured on Eastlink t.v. a number of times this year and the dojo certainly gained a lot of public exposure as a result.

This year looks promising. We had 6 or 7 new juniors at our first class on September 12th. Many of our adults have not made it back to class this week but I look forward to seeing many of them returning in the next few weeks. There are however, a few notable absences. Our own Daryl Whetter has taken up residence in Singapore with his new bride. All of us here at Mukashi wish him all the best as he will certainly be missed here at the dojo. Matt Pyne may not be too regular at class as well as he is currently juggling work requirements.  Hunter Powell is off to Acadia for his second year of studies and Melanie Bourque has re-located to Yellowknife NT to take a full time teaching position. We wish them all the best and hope they will drop by when they are able to.

On the plus side, Lloyd Comeau has decided to train with us this year and I think he will be a welcome addition. Also Alain LeBlanc has said he will try to attend at least once/week to get back in the swing of things.

We have quite a few students expressing interest in going for grading this year and in light of this we will be offering Friday night training once/month on the first Friday of the month beginning in October. Also we have decided to have extended classes on Mondays and Thursdays until 9:30 or so, for those who would like extra training. I also have a couple of Shihan clinics scheduled for October and November.

All of this information will be marked on the dojo calendar, as soon as I can find one. In the mean time I will try to get as much of the information as possible up on our website.
